Dr Ian Barrett

Ian has undertaken many strategic and developmental reviews of services, projects and organisations - in both the not-for-profit and public sectors - including assessing policies, management structures and systems, and service delivery. In many cases this entailed using innovative methods of involving stakeholders in evaluating current objectives and performance as well as obtaining their ideas on future development. He has also provided consultancy support to help implement development plans and is an experienced project planner and manager.

Specific experience includes:

Helping energywatch to reach vulnerable and disadvantaged consumers.

Working with ROCC staff and consultants on methods of involving "hard to reach" service users in strategic planning for Supporting People.

Extensive "hands on" experience of designing and undertaking consultation / involvement processes with the general public and a wide range of client groups - including young people and people from BME communities.

Best Value reviews of both mental health and substance misuse services.

Use of social audit methodology for both an organisational review (of ROCC) and in relation to policy services (Welsh Council for Voluntary Action).

A range of strategy and policy development work for local authorities.

Managing two Charities and many individual projects including training, research, environmental, arts and social projects.
