Service User Involvement Requirements and Aims
Requirements
Service users need to be or have accessed housing related, social and care support services. Service users should be able to offer ideas and suggestions, reflecting on current or past personal experiences to help shape and improve services for the future. There is no age limit or other restrictive criteria to be involved with service user involvement.
Aims
- The aim of Service User Involvement is to ensure that the views, opinions, recommendations and overall voice of the service user is represented at the highest level of the decision making structures. This service user representation is evident within the Supporting people, social care and support services.
- Service User Involvement helps to shape effective communication methods to ensure information about services and how to access them is available in order to involve people in their services
- Service User Involvement is needed to share and discuss information about any major changes to services and for the service user to be able to consider the impact these changes might have to the individual and on the service as a whole.
- Service user involvement offers the individual a greater sense of awareness of their own ability. Service users realise the benefit of being actively involved and gain increased awareness self confidence, self worth, being valued and the importance of making a difference for others in the future.
- Service users will gain skills through training and interaction with other service users that are transferable and can be used to enable the individual to consider some form of vocational activity ion the future.
