Working with Groups

Suitable for: This is an introductory course for staff who will be running groups with other staff, service users, carers or others. Participants should have good general communication skills, such as giving and receiving feedback and have challenging skills.
Course Aims and Objectives
By the end of the course participants should:
- Understand the purposes of different types of groups.
- Be able to plan and prepare for the start of a group and end of a group.
- Recognise group processes and stages of development of a group.
- Be able to apply appropriate interventions as a facilitator or group leader.
- Begin to develop methods of evaluating group effectiveness.
Trainers for this course
Nigel Keir
Is the Training and Development Manager at ROCC. He has held training positions in the Civil Service and for the National Association of CAB. He has also managed mental community support services. Nigel holds a diploma in training management and is currently studying for an MSc in the Management of Voluntary Organisations.
