Suitable for: The course is essential for anyone working with clients needing to claim benefit because of sickness and disability from October 27th 2008. The Employment & Support Allowance (ESA) replaces Incapacity Benefit and incapacity based Income Support for new claimants. With a new benefit structure and test of limited capability for work, ESA is going to change both the amount of benefit claimants can get and how they qualify for it. This course will look at how ESA differs from the present system, the eligibility criteria for claiming the work related activity component and the support component and the new work focused health related assessment.

By the end of the course, participants will:
- Understand the reason for the changes.
- Know the eligibility criteria.
- Understand how ESA differs from Incapacity Benefit/Income Support on grounds of being incapable of work.
- Understand the new work focused health related assessment.
- Be aware of the impact on other benefits.
