Suitable for: This course offers a practical and user-friendly introduction to housing legislation surrounding landlords and tenants, in both the private and social housing sectors. It also includes an insight into formal court procedures and documentation, to enable participants to identify options at all stages –whether from the perspective of both landlord and occupier.
Course Aims and Objectives
This course aims to provide participants with a practical working knowledge of different types of occupancy, the rights and responsibilities of each occupier, the security of their tenure and the processes required to take possession of an occupant’s home. By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Identify the common types of occupancy (housing status) in rented accommodation
- Identify the basic rights and responsibilities afforded to each type of occupier
- Understand the legal process required to take possession of a property
- Be familiar with the documents commonly used in possession proceedings
- Identify and apply options available at each stage of the possession process to prevent or delay the loss of accommodation
- Identify when additional advice or representation may be needed and options for accessing this
Participants do not need any prior housing knowledge to benefit from this course.
