Course Aims and Objectives
This course aims to provide participants with an introduction or update on the provisions of homelessness legislation and the allocation of social housing, and to consider how these work in practice. By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Identify the main pieces of legislation affecting homeless people and those applying for long term social housing.
- Understand the “five steps approach” for dealing with homelessness applications.
- Use the relevant Codes of Guidance to identify eligibility and to support applications.
- Identify the duties owed to applicants.
- Identify options for reviews of unfavourable decisions.
- Understand how permanent accommodation is allocated.
- Consider practical issues surrounding Homelessness and Allocations procedures.
