Course Aims and Objectives
This course is designed to give participants an in-depth understanding of Borderline Personality Disorder, including the extreme behaviours associated with the condition. It aims to demystify some of the assumptions and fears when dealing with such an emotive subject and client group. This course is interactive; it aims for participants to discuss, acknowledge and identify positive methods and skills to work effectively with those who have the diagnosis of BPD within their organisation. The course will cover:
- The theories of BPD – does it actually exist?
- BPD in childhood – recognising the symptoms etc.
- The similarities between BPD and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
- The ‘perfect family’ syndrome
- Black and white thinking and splitting
- BPD and their relationships
- BPD – suicide and self harm
- An in-depth look at DBT and other treatments
- Carers and the impact DBT has on their lives
- Influential people in the field of BPD
